Peacekeepers
1. Nothing that can be considered a weapon should be on your body. This includes pocket knives.
2. No jewelry i.e. anything that can be ripped off or lost in a fight, such as chains around your neck that are exposed, earrings, piercing decorations, watches. Wallets go in front pockets, not back.
3. If you normally wear eyeglasses, make sure you do so with one of those glasses cords attached. Do not wear contact lenses in case someone uses pepper spray. Bring spare glasses.
4. Carry a small plastic bottle of apple cider vinegar and a bandana.
5. Wear study and light shoes that you can move in.
6.. Clothing: long sleeve shirts and long pants. You will need a hat. Plastic goggles or other eye cover would be wise to carry.
7. Use a backpack to secure items as you will need your hands free, for example car keys and spare water.
8. Plastic bottle for water for dehydration and to wash eyes from pepper spray or other noxious liquids.
9. Energy bars are good to have.
10. Other:
a. Work with one "buddy" for mutual security.
b. Watch the counter protesters and look for items that could be weapons, pepper spray or any unidentified liquid. Any such item noted, notify the command element or the police on site.
c. You need to be close to your buddy always. If you can't see them, you can't help them if there is trouble.
d. Be calm and professional and refuse to be triggered or intimidated. There will be more of our people nearby if you need help. You have the right of self defense, but never touch someone or throw the first punch. If you have to use force for self defense, use only the level to keep you and your partner and those we protect safe.
e. Circumstances will vary between locales, but our goal in Victoria is to keep our speakers safe. This means pairs of peacekeepers on the sides of the stage, with a team up near the speakers. You should be within a few feet of the speakers...don't crowd them, but don't leave gaps that can be exploited.
f. Cooperate with law enforcement.
g. Have some sort of identifying symbol on you, such as an armband of a particular colour. (How about pink?).
Medics
1. All items: the same as for peacekeepers, items 1-9.
2. Medic kit in a backpack or fanny pack to include:
a. Your medic supplies which need as a minimum: gauze pads, large and small, gauze rolls,1 tensor bandage, antibiotic spray or cream, one pressure bandage. Extra water in plastic bottles or camel backs. Sunscreen.
3. Medics work in teams of 2 or 3, with one member of the team always serving as lookout and able to call for assistance.
4. Medical ethics demands that we treat anyone as long as they are not a threat. This includes those that may have just insulted you or spit at you.
5. Stay calm and report injuries to our command element. Remember, BC Ambulance paramedics won't cross police lines or enter areas that are unstable. Never fear, we will get to you if you need help.
6. Before you treat anyone, ask their permission. Unless the person is unconscious, you need the patient's agreement or that of a parent, friend or partner before acting on someone's behalf.
Stay within your training as you are covered by the Good Samaritan Act as long as you do.
Be especially concerned with children and the elderly.

Create a mantra
Another suggestion is to create a mantra to repeat to yourself over and over to stay grounded, focused, in your heart and connected to the Divine.
