It is embedded in "the universe" that silence means consent. This is the way it ought to be. That's why it is incumbent on each human to speak up when something doesn't gel with them. To say nothing implies that you consent. We do this for many things and it's the right formula, it can't be any other way for things to make sense. This rule works because we shouldn't have to keep asking for consent. That would be enormously tedious. Rather we must speak up if we object. And when we say nothing, it means we don't object. They've got us by the short and curlies with this if we don't understand the dynamic. But why do people stay silent? This is another question that ought to be asked whenever we feel the cone of silence being placed over us unwillingly.
