The Japanese government issued for the first time, an offshore earthquake warning for a mega thrust earthquake that could be incoming within the next 7 days. We’re talking about magnitude 9 plus mega- thrust earthquake.
Japan issued a tsunami advisory after a series of strong earthquakes - with almost 100,000 residents ordered to evacuate.
The quakes hit Ishikawa and nearby areas, with one having a preliminary magnitude of 7.6, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
It was the strongest quake in the region in more than four decades, according to the US Geological Survey, and resulted in the first major tsunami warning since 2011.

On 11 March 2011, Japan faced one of the most devastating disasters in its history. The coastal area of Sendai City was hit hard by tsunamis caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
UN raises alarm over Japanese nuclear wastewater discharge into the Pacific Ocean

The United Nations Human Rights Council officially expressed its concerns to Japan over the release of nuclear-contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the Pacific Ocean.
In August 2023, Japan started discharging wastewater from about 1000 storage tanks containing contaminated water collected after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, which led to the meltdown of its Fukushima nuclear plant.
The 2011 disaster resulted in 19,747 confirmed deaths and 2553 people still listed as missing. The Japanese government says indirect deaths related to the disaster have also been recognised, bringing the total to 20,000.
