Why were they not exonerated instead of pardoned? See below.

"This is a big one," Trump said in the Oval Office

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Monday issued roughly 1,500 pardons and commuted the sentences of 14 of his supporters in connection with the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, when thousands of them stormed the building amid his false claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged against him.
Trump commuted the sentences of individuals associated with the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, who were convicted of seditious conspiracy. He then issued "a full, complete and unconditional pardon to all other individuals convicted of offenses related to events that occurred at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021," a category that included people who assaulted law enforcement officers.
"This is a big one," Trump said in the Oval Office while signing the document, adding, "We hope they come out tonight, frankly."
The family of Enrique Tarrio, the Proud Boys leader convicted of seditious conspiracy, said in a media statement Tuesday that he was released late Monday from FCI Pollock, a medium-security federal prison in Louisiana, and expected to arrive in Miami on Tuesday.
Tarrio was serving 22 years in federal prison after he was convicted of seditious conspiracy.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who was speaker of the House during the attack, called Trump's actions "an outrageous insult to our justice system" and the law enforcement officers who protected the Capitol that day.
"It is shameful that the President has decided to make one of his top priorities the abandonment and betrayal of police officers who put their lives on the line to stop an attempt to subvert the peaceful transfer of power," she said in a statement. "Despite the President’s decision, we must always remember the extraordinary courage and valor of the law enforcement heroes who stood in the breach and ensured that democracy survived on that dark day.” 06:37 video Continue at https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/justice-department/trump-set-pardon-defendants-stormed-capitol-jan-6-2021-rcna187735
About the pardons

Pardons can involve legal complications for recipients. A good post at FR highlights what’s involved in a pardon:
Burdick v. United States, 236 U.S. 79 (1915) - Pardons impute guilt, accepting them confesses guilt
The United States Supreme Court ^ | January 25, 1915 | United States Supreme Court
Here’s the easy to read digest of the legal technicalities of the 1915 Burdick case, but before you read the four points, this is what the Zhou DoJ is telling J6 defendants, which confirms what Burdick says:
So when Milley and others say how “grateful” they are for their pardons, they’re admitting they committed crimes. With that in mind, here are the four points of Burdick: Continue at https://meaninginhistory.substack.com/p/about-those-pardons
SOTN Editor’s Note
From our seat, the vast majority of J6ers should NOT be pardoned as that clearly implies that they are guilty of committing a crime(s), which they are not. Those courageous folks are only guilty of protesting against the greatest POTUS election crime spree ever perpetrated against the American people. Therefore, not only should the J6ers be legally exonerated* from the false arrests, false prosecutions, false convictions and false incarcerations, they ought to be hailed as the great heroes that they truly are. After all, those valiant Patriots were present for duty on January 6th doing what every US citizen should have been doing on that fateful day. https://stateofthenation.info/?p=12774

The entire deceitful state-sponsored operation, overseen by the highly weaponized U.S. Intelligence Community, has left a truly terrible and indelible stain on the US government. https://stateofthenation.info/?p=12774
'Pardons impute guilt, accepting them confesses guilt' The same can be said for all of Biden's Pardons and preemptive Pardons too (especially), of course!
