10 days that vanished: shift to the Gregorian calendar
The Julian calendar in the Christian world for the 1st and 2nd millennium CE was an improvement over the Roman republican calendar it replaced, but it was 11 minutes and 14 seconds longer than the tropical year (the time it takes the Sun to return to the same position as seen from Earth). The result was the calendar drifted about one day for every 314 years.
The Gregorian calendar, widely adopted in the Western world, was established by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 to reform the Julian calendar. Calendars purposefully keep man focused on physical matter reality rather than explore possibilities beyond the physical realm. Ask yourself, “How attached are individuals to personal calendars on a day to day basis?”
