I would argue that Canadians as well as Americans have been under a state of surveillance for going on 25 years come this September following 9/11. We were tracked through our phones during the convid lockdown and the Canadian government along with the service providers admitted to it. The latest slew of online legislation is merely the government legitimizing their ongoing surveillance under the guise of protecting children, minorities etc. Plus they gave themselves the authority to erase any of us digitally from society should we speak out of line or search unacceptable topics online.

The journalist Glen Greenwald who broke the Edward Snowden story, wrote a book in 2015 “ No Place to Hide” detailing the extent of the online surveillance dating back to the major rollout in 2007. It is truly chilling. Literally every phone call, text, email and keystroke of the Five Eye nations. They have it all. No warrants, court orders, bridging governmental changes, both right and left are complicit. There’s been no online privacy for over 20 years. But soon all of that data will be drug out of the archives to target everyone deemed a threat to the agenda.
