Models of reality: an important distinction

A model of the world is how you make sense of the world, how you see things, what meaning you give it. Your model of the world is usually from beliefs you adopted unconsciously from age 0 to 7 as a child, your cultural upbringing, environmental influences, beliefs, peer groups, significant emotional events. All of them combined into a kaleidoscopically unique experience you have of your life and how your perceive the world.
A model of reality is how and why you think life works the way it does. Not how you interact with life, your model of the world, but how and why you think life is.
Materialistic model of reality
There are predominant models reality can fall into. The age old classic that pervaded for many, many years is the materialistic based model where everything is made of atoms, everything is fixed, ‘out there’ means ‘out there’, and there’s nothing I can do about it. I can’t influence it directly unless I touch it and try to bend it into shape b/c the world operates independent of my participation in it.
The challenge with that model is that you are almost inherently a victim to circumstance. You can try to shape circumstances, try to engage with reality, try to chip away the life you want out of the granite of that model, however it’s hard work and there’s little you can do to change things you can’t control. This is the reality most humans live in. My job is to survive the ‘out there’ by navigating through it the best I can w/out getting hurt.
Quantum model of reality
There is another model of reality, the quantum based reality. When we drill down and look at the material world base made of atoms, which the Greeks knew 2,000 years ago, and before then the Mesopotamians had a word for atom. Even the Egyptians understood there were small little units of matter that made up bigger units of matter. Once again, limited perceptions.
New understanding accelerated out of the most famous meeting of the minds, the Solvay Conference in 1927; the pioneers of quantum physics. It was discovered that atoms are not what we thought they were. What Newton was saying, while it gives an understanding of the world from a materialistic perspective, leaves a lot of unanswered questions. When we drilled down further quantum mechanics, quantum levels of understanding were born.
A quantum based reality or a virtual based reality, is becoming far more accepted by credible scientists around the world right now, as we gain more knowledge using advanced technology and equipment to validate hypothesis that previously were only subjective.
The difference between the two main models 1] material based reality [knock on wood] this is solid, wood is real and exists independent from me and 2] quantum based reality, which says this wood isn’t real at all. Solidity is a perception of reality b/c when you look deep into it there is nothing there. When we zoom out we think it looks real however when we zoom in there is nothing there, similar to that of a television screen. Zoom out and there appears to be people on the screen. Zoom in and there’s nothing more than quick flashes of 3 primary color lights, photons appearing and disappearing that create the illusion when we zoom out that looks like there are people there.
Virtual reality hypothesis
The latest credible model of reality is essentially the virtual reality hypothesis. We’re staring at things we now know that through dogma in science over the past 100 years, scientists refused to open their eyes and look at. Similar to Galileo’s time.
Few people understand existing models of reality. Many are committed to their own dogma b/c their identity is tied to it. To invalidate somebody’s model of reality or model of the world threaten the very sense of who they are, so they default into attack and defend rather than be open minded, which is what science should be. Science is meant to be continuous discovery, to re-evaluate and uplevel previous discoveries.
Biocentrism
Biocentrism or the virtual reality hypothesis says consciousness is creating reality around you. The more we drill down, the more the virtual reality hypothesis actually becomes. Some models don’t necessarily invalidate others b/c they have their place, so please choose one b/c uncertainty around engaging life with big questions you don’t know how to answer, usually means you are off center when it comes to making big decisions. Example. “What does life mean?” “I don’t know.” So, you likely react emotionally depending on your mood when the question is asked rather than having a fixed level of philosophy that guides you.
Two different fundamental relationships to reality
Einstein said the most important question a person can ask is whether or not they live in a just universe. What he meant is, you have two ways of perceiving life: 1] you live in a hostile universe, which is essentially materialism i.e. survival of the fittest 2] when I believe the fundamental underlying principle behind what makes everything work in the Universe is unconditional love, I can stretch that to the realization that if the Universe loves me enough to give me life and beats my heart at 4 in the morning when I am not aware of it, surely the Universe is looking after me in other ways as well.
Are we the creators, the created, or both?
Is everything an illusory simulation? Was the world created by a non-physical power we can communicate with and possibly influence through our mind, heart and feelings, thereby participating in the creation of our own reality? These grandiose existential questions are central to this documentary and concept of the Simulation Hypothesis, a thought provoking exploration of the nature of our existence, playing into universal curiosity of how and why we came to be.
