World War I established the template for modern sovereign debt crises, where military conflicts serve as opportunities for financial institutions to establish permanent revenue streams through government indebtedness. The pattern repeats throughout the 20th century and continues today.
Questions
Why do sovereign debt crises always seem to result in austerity policies that benefit international creditors while imposing costs on ordinary citizens?
Why do military conflicts consistently lead to increased government indebtedness rather than decreased international tensions?
Why do peace negotiations always involve complex financial arrangements that seem to matter more than territorial or political agreements?
Answer
World War I established a precedent where international conflicts serve primarily as debt consolidation exercises rather than political or territorial disputes.
Pattern: The few benefiting at the expense of many
European empires borrowed massive amounts to fund territorial expansion, creating debt spirals that mirror today’s government spending patterns.
Rising interest rates made military conquest mathematically necessary for debt service, and discover why American banks had billions of reasons to ensure the Allies won the war. The same financial pressures that drove nations to bankruptcy over a century ago, still shape international conflicts today.
Repetitive patterns of emergency borrowing during crises create permanent financial obligations that outlast the original problems by generations. Sovereign debt crises always seem to benefit the same financial institutions while ordinary citizens pay the price.
Desired outcome
With deeper insight into crimes against humanity, may new ways of thinking, being and doing contribute to ending self-sabotage and liberation from harmful patterns.
Remembering those whose lives were lost through war
May your spirit/souls rest in peace and glory.
Remembering those injured through war and veterans
Apologies for my contributions directly/indirectly to your losses.
