At first I thought Musk really did want freedom of speech etc., I am not so sure, as you said all his money comes from government and the military, DOD, he likes to play both sides. I for one do not trust him or any billionaire. With all their money they could save and help a lot of people, and none have ever done that as much as they would like you to think they have. All their so called Charity Foundations are nothing but a joke and a way to filter the money to themselves.
