Trump defends beef import plan after GOP blowback
Aug 21, 2026
Trump in a social media post earlier Friday announced he was temporarily lifting certain tariffs on imported ground beef to lower the cost of beef for consumers. The suspension would be for 90 days and would allow up to 300,000 metric tons of product for ground beef to be imported.
“While America’s cattle producers share the goal of keeping groceries affordable for consumers, flooding the market with government-subsidized, below-market beef is not the way to rebuild the American cattle herd,” Woodall said. “Cattle markets have already turned sharply lower this morning, to the detriment of farmers and ranchers.”
“This is a critical time of year for cattle producers, as we approach the season where they are making decisions regarding their herds,” he added. “Cattle farmers and ranchers are responding to strong market signals and historically high demand, and we are already working to rebuild after years of ongoing drought, high input costs and other challenges that have reduced U.S. cattle numbers.”
He said the announcement throws “cold water” on the idea of expanding herds. Continues at https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/6044555-trump-suspends-ground-beef-tariffs/
China rejected Argentine beef
On March 19, the General Administration of Customs of China suspended a shipment of 22 tons of beef from the slaughterhouse ArreBeef in Pérez Millán (Buenos Aires), after detecting the presence of chloramphenicol.
The lab had found chloramphenicol, an antibiotic that has been illegal in food animals in Argentina since 1995 and that the FDA lists in 21 CFR 530.41 as one of a short list of drugs flatly prohibited from extra label use in food-producing animals in the United States. American cattle shortage
Aug 31, 2026
Perhaps we’ve been looking at America’s beef crisis all wrong.
Beef is expensive. The cattle herd is historically small. Drought hammered ranchers. Feed got expensive. Equipment got expensive. Interest got expensive. Land got expensive. Mexican cattle imports were disrupted because a flesh-eating parasite decided to make a comeback.
Obviously, the solution is simple.
Eat bugs.
Why bother fixing the economics of raising cattle when we can just put a little cricket aioli on a toasted brioche bun and call it sustainable?
Welcome to American agricultural policy, where we have somehow developed the remarkable ability to simultaneously complain that farmers aren’t producing enough food while adopting policies that can make producing that food less attractive.
Now that beef prices are politically uncomfortable, the federal government has announced plans to allow as much as 300,000 metric tons of additional ground beef to enter the United States at reduced tariffs during a 90-day period.
Why?
To lower beef prices.
When?
Right before the midterm elections.
Nothing suspicious here, folks. Please continue chewing.

How to Engineer a Food Crisis
Unshadowed
Aug 29, 2026
UK media has been abuzz about the need to stock canned goods due to “food shortages,” blaming global warming and hostile nations.
Now that farms were unprofitable, the UK went further, actively incentivizing some producers to stop farming their land and shed their livestock. This was achieved through a new Land Use plan to take farms out of food production.
They did not need to ban traditional farming. They simply made the farm economically unviable, paid producers to do anything other than produce, and are now calling the missing food a “climate emergency.”
The Food Crisis is Coming from Inside the House
Don’t let them call this climate change. This food crisis was engineered through policy, and is now being marketed as weather. Continues at https://unshadowed.substack.com/p/how-to-engineer-a-food-crisis

Sept 01, 2026: Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins has refused to say which countries the Trump administration is relying on for its plan to temporarily surge beef imports into the U.S. to ease consumer prices. https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-beef-imports-brooke-rollins-b3039094.html
Can government do anything right? No really, I cannot think of one thing they have done right.
