Why Mind Parasites Are Losing Power
The Cosmic Onion
Jan 30, 2026
For a long time, cleverness was enough to gain advantage over others.
If you could read people, talk smoothly, and stay one step ahead, you could get almost anything you wanted—access, loyalty, money, forgiveness, control. You didn’t need force. You didn’t need truth. You just needed timing and tone.
Cleverness functioned like leverage. Those who mastered it learned how to nudge outcomes without appearing to push. They didn’t look like predators. They looked like facilitators.
Most of the most dangerous people I’ve known weren’t violent or loud. They were instrument-clever. They could read a room instantly, mirror values on demand, and extract results while leaving others unsure anything had been taken at all.
For decades, that skill set won.
It doesn’t anymore.
Something has shifted—quietly, unevenly, but unmistakably. Clever people are still clever. But the power once derived from cleverness alone is draining away. Not because intelligence stopped working, but because intelligence without grounding has become visible.
This isn’t a moral reckoning.
It’s a structural one.
1. When Cleverness Was the Advantage
In the old game, cleverness was a master key.
If you could control the narrative, you controlled the outcome. Truth was flexible. Memory was negotiable. Results mattered more than causes.
This is why grifters and mind parasites thrived.
2. The Shelf Life of Clever Explanations
But cleverness has a shelf life.
People can forgive being wrong.
They don’t forgive being handled.
3. When Clever Stopped Mapping to Reality
The last few years accelerated something that was already underway.
This wasn’t an awakening.
It was pattern recognition.
4. Reading People Isn’t the Same as Knowing
Grifters are excellent at reading people.
But reading isn’t knowing.
The game didn’t end.
The scoring changed.
5. Why Normies Are Quietly Slipping the Leash
A lot of commentary frames this moment as people “waking up.”
That’s not quite right.
Most people weren’t asleep. They were busy. They relied on systems and voices that used to function well enough. When those systems stopped delivering, attention withdrew.
No rebellion required.
6. The Rise of Coherence
What’s replacing cleverness-as-power isn’t ignorance.
Because coherence can’t be mirrored on demand.
It can’t be rushed.
It can’t be extracted.
You either have it or you don’t.
Once people learn to feel that difference, the old tricks stop landing.
7. Why Some Clever People Feel Cheated
For many genuinely capable people, this moment feels unfair.
If your power came from sounding right, this shift feels like betrayal.
If it came from being aligned, it feels like relief.
8. Why Mind Parasites Are Running Out of Moves
Mind parasites depend on asymmetry:
Disengagement is the one thing parasites can’t manipulate.
Without reaction, there’s no leverage.
9. The New Advantage Isn’t Brilliance
The emerging advantage isn’t brilliance.
It’s traceability.
Recognition doesn’t demand agreement.
It simply invites noticing.
That’s far more powerful now than persuasion ever was.
10. What This Means Going Forward
Clever people aren’t disappearing.
They’re losing unearned authority.
Not because they’re right.
Because they’re real.
11. The Game Didn’t End
It matured.
The rules didn’t vanish.
They clarified.
That’s not enlightenment.
It’s alignment.
And alignment, it turns out, is much harder to fake than cleverness ever was.

Individuals can dwell on continuous negative news, fear porn, propaganda, etc. that contribute to self sabotage and devolution, or dwell on this rare world shift and opportunity to raise our awareness, lower entropy and evolve consciousness.

Brilliant framing on the shift from cleverness to coherence. The observation that "people weren't asleep, they were busy" is such an understated insight because it reframes disengagement not as rebellion but as resource reallocation. I've noticed this in how information fatigue works now, people aren't necesarily rejecting narratives aggressively, they're just quietly opting out when the return on attention drops.
