The bigger picture

Many Canadians and TD agents remain unaware of a quiet roll out of digital ID effective Apr 24, 2023 by Toronto Dominion bank.

Late in the day Apr 21, 2023, TD customer care confirmed customer responses over the week-end take effect the same day the customer responds to TD Agreement changes.

The TD Cardholder Agreement contains two new Agreements that require customers to refuse, otherwise they agree to the terms and conditions.

Ask a TD branch manager or call TD customer care 1 888 661 9029 or email customercare@td.com to ask what happens if you refuse only the TD Digital Banking Agreement? Can you still use your TD access/debit card freely?

Financial institutions

2017: Big banks and some credit unions are committed to digital ID, which is track and trace to disclose customer information and patterns for profit https://financialpost.com/news/fp-street/canadas-big-banks-testing-toronto-based-digital-identity-network-powered-by-blockchain

Options

1.   Read the TD Agreement to know the outcome of your choices.
2.   If you open an account at another bank explain why.
3.   If you move your TD business to another bank explain why.

Before making contact know what you want to say and why. Ask questions. Be calm, courteous, factual, and stick to well supported notes.

If you close a TD account request confirmation

Write a letter to your branch manager requesting a letter of confirmation [by a certain date] that your account is 100% closed, and that no information will be disclosed to any Wallet provider ("Wallet Provider") or other third parties such as wireless companies or data service providers ("Other Third Parties") and/or TD world-wide affiliates. Send your letter registered mail for proof of delivery.

Send a copy of your letter to the appropriate TD executives [Risk, Technology, Personal banking, Transformation]

What are the risks of digital ID?

Aug 2022
”We are on the road to Beijing, and Canadians should be apprehensive,” says lawyer John Carpay, President of the Justice Centre.

“Things are moving fast, and Canadians should be very concerned that a free and democratic society is quickly headed towards a society where citizens can be cancelled by the government with the flick of a switch,” warns Mr. Carpay.

Let your voice be heard

Book an appointment with your branch manager to voice your concerns.

Contact three TD executives with your concerns. Invite three other people to do the same. https://www.td.com/ca/en/about-td/corporate-profile/executive-profiles

Write a TD bank review and ask others to do the same. https://ca.trustpilot.com/review/tdcanadatrust.com

Use the TD complaint escalation b/c many TD agents are uninformed and their responses often conflict and/or are incorrect.

The Agreement is effective Apr 24.23. This means unless a customer refuses by Apr 24.23 they agree. Late today, TD customer care confirmed refusing an Agreement over the week-end will be recorded before Apr 24.23. "If you don’t think they fit your needs, you can refuse them by contacting us by May 24, 2023." https://www.tdcanadatrust.com/document/PDF/consent/530012.pdf
