The root cause of all suffering
Is the mistaken belief in separation.
The Gnostic tradition identified that conventional petitionary prayer, whatever its genuine emotional value, carries a built-in cosmological assumption. It assumes distance. It assumes the divine is elsewhere. It assumes you are the petitioner and the divine is the petition receiver and that this is the proper structural relationship between the human and the Ultimate.
The Monad Call
What is the Monad?
The Apocryphon of John [secret book], one of the most important surviving Sethian gnostic texts describes the Monad, the true Source, the first Principle in language that systematically dismantles that assumption. The Monad, it says, is a monarchy with nothing above it. Pure light, immeasurable. The Source from which everything that exists emanates without diminishment. It is not elsewhere. It is not distant. The distance is a perceptual artifact, an installed error. And prayer practiced in the petition mode reinstalls that error every time you perform it. Not maliciously, not because you’re doing it wrong. Structurally, because the act itself encodes the assumption of distance into your body and your psyche each time you repeat it.
The Monad is not God
The Monad is not God in the way Western religious thought typically uses that word. It is not a being. It is not a person. It does not have preferences. It does not reward obedience. It does not exist somewhere above you waiting to receive your communications. It is not within anything as if it were inferior to anything. It doesn’t exist in time. It doesn’t occupy space. It is the ground from which all subsequent reality, including the flawed, bounded, Archon administered reality we inhabit, ultimately originates, even if distantly, even if through layers of degradation and emanation. Here’s the analogy that finally cracked it open for me.
The demiurge
Imagine light passing through a prism. The original light, pure undivided before refraction is the Monad. Everything on the other side of the prism is what you get after that original unity has passed through the structures that divide, bend and color it. The demiurge, is essentially a product of that refraction. A being who constructs reality from a position of not fully understanding what the original light actually was. The claim that changes everything
The Gnostic tradition, specifically the Sethian texts, the Valentinian writings, the Trimorphic Protennoia one of the most astonishing documents to survive from the ancient world, does not treat this distance as absolute. It treats it as a perceptual condition, not an ontological one. You are not separated from the Monad the way two different objects are separated in space. You are separated from your awareness of the Monad and those are completely different problems requiring completely different solutions. A problem of spatial distance requires a bridge. A problem of perceptual condition requires recognition.
Re-membering
The Trimorphic Protennoia is a text written from the perspective of the divine Source addressing the ones who have forgotten their origin. Not commanding them, not demanding worship or petition, reminding them. The entire rhetorical structure of the text is oriented toward recognition, not supplication. This is where the Monad call diverges from prayer in a way that is not merely theological but is experientially different in a way you can actually ‘feel’.
Prayer
Prayer in the petition mode positions you as the one who needs something from a Source that has it. The Monad call positions you as the one who has temporarily forgotten who/what you are and is now remembering. Not asking, recognizing. Not bridging a spatial gap, dissolving a perceptual one. Where prayer emphasizes need and distance, the Monad call emphasizes identity and proximity. Where prayer asks, the Monad call declares. Think about what that means. You are not sending a signal outward across a void. You are remembering inward towards something that was never actually absent.
Pray with genuine feeling and deep gratitude as if your prayer is already manifest b/c you and the Monad are one.
Three types of human constitution
In the Gnostic framework not all human beings have the same relationship to the divine spark. The Gospel of Philip and the Tripartite Tractate both found at Nag Hammadi describe three categories of human spiritual constitution.
Spiritual (Pneumatics)
The Pneumatics: People in whom the divine spark is present and active. The ones for whom the glitch in the system registers not as error but as signal. People for whom the material world’s claim to totality feels at some level they can’t quite name, like a lie.Psychic (Psychics)
The Psychics: People with some spiritual capacity, some intuition that something is wrong and seek answers externally instead of looking within themselves. They remain oriented toward the system’s own structures, its rules, its morality, its mediated spirituality.Material (Hylics)
The Hylics don’t question the matrix. They are so thoroughly identified with the material world that the possibility of awakening barely registers for them.
Keys to the Kingdom
Remembering toward Source rather than petitioning across a void, found in the Nag Hammadi texts discovered in an Egyptian cave in 1945, hidden in a sealed ceramic jar, survived precisely because someone in the fourth or fifth century buried them rather than surrender them for destruction.
2026 appears to be a window of opportunity as the veil of mistaken beliefs thins, inviting humans to reclaim personal power and in so doing this dark reality is transformed to make way for a new era.
